After failing miserably on the set of their first "talkie", Mary Pickford (America's Sweetheart played by Amy Staats) and Louise Brooks (The Vamp played by Diana Ruppe) vow never to speak again. Out of work and past their prime, they become roommates in Brooklyn.
Stuck in her role as America's sweetheart, and both of them still living as if in a silent film, Mary's resentment of Louise's antics goes politely unspoken until...threatened with the loss of her one true love.... Mary must face her fears and expose the ugliness inside her if she is ever to get what she wants.
A comedy with dark undertones, Mary and Louise explores the ups and downs of friendship and the importance of finding one's voice amid the din of great personal and technological change
Inspired by such films as "Pandora's Box", "The New York Hat" and long afternoons at Film Forum, Mary and Louise is a love note to the silent screen goddesses of an era long lost. The film will be shot in black and white with elements of the fantastic and stylized use of imagery and sound. Mary and Louise is in pre-production and scheduled to shoot in June
This budget will be used for the rental of camera, equipment, period costumes, sets, cast and crew, and most singularly, the rental and care of a very diminutive pony who will be playing a very small but signifigant role as Mary's most trusted companion.
Mary and Louise is an official nominee of The 2012 Winter Film Awards for Best Screenplay
