Riddle Fence: A Journal of Arts & Culture

Riddle Fence

We’re the upstarts, the rabble rousers. The new kids on the rock.

We’re a flashy vehicle for fast-paced literature from Newfoundland, across Canada and around the world. At Riddle Fence, we're unearthing the best contemporary writing and art and we do it three times a year.

We publish poetry, fiction, fakelore and nonfiction alongside contemporary art—and yeah, we stand out from the crowd.

In our first three years, we won national acclaim and become a hip place to be seen between the covers. But don’t worry. We still wear our mud boots. We know how to get down and  dirty.

This Rockethub project is to help fund year four.  We’re asking you to believe in us; subscribe to Riddle Fence so that we can bring you three glorious issues of literature, art and culture in 2012.

Donate to Riddle Fence and support local writers and artists who are creating a national forum for homegrown talent. We’re the only literary journal in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Literary journals require a lot of work and creative funding. It's not easy to stay afloat in Harper's Canada. We're reaching out to our community and asking that you support our project, so that we can continue to bring you fine literature and art.

Last year, Riddle Fence was named one of the top four literary journals in Canada by The Writers' Trust of Canada (as part of their annual fundraiser). We've had poems reprinted in The Best Canadian Poetry. In our first year, we were a finalist for the Emerging Artist award through the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council.

And we're run by working writers and artists. Not a university. Every issue of Riddle Fence is crafted by some of the finest writers in Newfoundland; each issue runs approximately ten pages of contemporary art, chosen by working artists.

We're asking our community to support us. We have big plans for 2012. We're offering incentives for your donations and hope you choose to give the gift of art this year.
