Be My Record Label

My friends - old and new, I need your support in bringing my debut musical exploration to life. I write this asking you to donate anything you can, towards the production of this first studio album. Over the past 10 months this project has taken extremely steady, beautiful, organic strides. Yet after utilizing the most unique facilities, and the most lenient, favoring, ultra-talented people - I'm at a true financial stand still with getting this off the ground.

It's apparent that our tools & tech are advancing at lightning speed, hence the way this site exists. It exemplifies the true new 'ballgame' for being an independent artist. Crowd-funding, the network, your network + your friends network. It's (potentially) exponential. A community, a support system, MY support system, can now be more seamless than ever.

Rockethub has made it truly quick, and super easy to contribute. They are an exchange: funds from fans for unique rewards from me. It's all or nothing. If I don't reach my goal, your money is returned to you. Thank you for reading, your interest, and as always, for listening to NONVIOLENCE.

Living in New York City has lent some of the most surreal experiences and inspirations. It's opened doors and enlightened my aspirations to a degree I never thought possible. From 2007 to the beginning of this year, freelancing and odd creative/production gigs kept me afloat. However, throughout 2010, I've been in a precise, tireless, invaluable 8 months of sole focus on the culmination of my art. I've had no attachments to anything other than my own ideas and work. It has truly been the most frugal and responsible period of my life.

Beyond what it costs to cut, splice and edit all of these creations, the funds to actually manufacture, distribute, and expose them all is a huge amount. It's no shame to say, that in my most full on artistic times, I just cannot fulfill a release of the work as I wish.

I've come up with countless ideas on how I should share this first release - a release that embodies many different mediums. I've had countless conversations, meetings, and potential 'investors.' In short, we know the whole platform for record labels is shifting rapidly. Major labels are in distress and sinking, while many Indie labels seem to have already defined an aesthetic. This project has created the maps for it’s own ‘operation as a label’ across an array of tonalities. In this 'phase one' YOU are acting as my record label!

Behind this first release, is the template to start my own mixed media imprint. Calling on you to act as it's building blocks, is really woven into the name of this debut album, LIVES. It's about reaching out as far as possible, and using the advantages of viral expansion, to create a platform where music, film, and any type of art/artist can come to the table with a project, to find a collective of talent, the network, and formulas to literally give a percentage back to chosen charities, organizations, and outreaches.

Touching as many ‘lives’ as possible is the big picture for this very serious endeavor. 100% of the time, the bodies of art and creativity will revolve around, and associate with a very distinct philanthropic foundation. This album, once afloat, will donate a portion of all sales to oil disaster cleanup efforts (and the Natural Resources Defense Council). I was born and raised on the Gulf coast of Florida, I know countless active volunteers, and it’s something I must do.

Your support lays this first stone. It very tangibly sends the master copies to the production plant, creating a special limited first pressing of (100) 12” Vinyl copies, (1000) Cds, limited teeshirts, countless promotional materials, and the ‘road coverage’ (road cases are seriously needed) to get this music played live in your town.

Your support allows this whole collection of things to see the light of day. What I find perhaps most incredible about this way of doings things, is that it gives you the opportunity to put your name right there alongside mine, in the production credits for the album (everyone who donates will be listed in the general thank you).

So please, if you can, share the love and make a donation. Receive something one of a kind, be a part of this foundation. I can promise you that this journey will be everlasting, and that NONVIOLENCE will only continue to trek forward, but it can only take it's first breath with a little help from my friends.

Again, thank you infinitely,

Very truly yours,

Joshua // Dave // NONVIOLENCE
