ABOUT LEVIATHAN LAB'S TWELFTH NIGHT
Inspired by the films of auteur Wong Kar-wai, Leviathan Lab’s production of Shakespeare’s classic romantic comedy TWELFTH NIGHT will be set in 1960's Hong Kong during the twelve days of Christmas. The production features Leviathan Lab’s Asian American classical acting company, directed by up-and-coming Yale School of Drama director Nelson Eusebio III, with original music by veteran Broadway actor/composer Jason Ma (BROADWAY: MISS SAIGON, SHOGUN THE MUSICAL, SLY FOX).
TWELFTH NIGHT is about how Viola, a young woman shipwrecked and stranded in the seaside city of Illyria, sets a series of events into motion that create a tangled knot of mistaken identities, bewildering desires, practical jokes, and ribald revelry that only time and fortuitous appearances can untie.
Leviathan Lab is a professional creative studio that invests in the advancement of Asian American performing artists by featuring them in new works by Asian American writers, as well as fresh interpretations of Classical plays.
HOW YOUR PARTICIPATION WILL FUEL US
The production costs of a two-week limited run of a professional theatrical production in New York City can run up to $16,000 or more. More than half of those expenses goes toward the rental of the venue. Your contribution to our production of TWELFTH NIGHT will enable Leviathan Lab to cover our rental of the beautiful, historic ArcLight Theatre in Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
Any additional funding or support we obtain over $6500 will go toward paying for costumes, set pieces, advertising/PR, and most importantly, honorariums for our priceless actors and production staff – who work in limited run productions like ours out of love for the craft, and the belief in both the production and in Leviathan Lab’s mission to promote Asian American talent. Join us in our mission, and tell everyone you know to help us launch this show, and help us do it in style!
This is your chance to participate in Leviathan Lab’s mission and join with a community that delights in and supports Asian American artistry. Your participation is integral to bringing this beloved Shakespeare comedy to life in a never before seen way. In addition, depending on your level of support, you can receive a ground floor, behind-the-scenes look at the creative process behind putting on a Shakespeare play – the opportunity to meet with the cast and crew, come to rehearsals, join us at social events, and be part of the excitement!
