The play:

Soul mates don’t die illustrates how soul mates connect regardless of sex or mortal form. Two star-crossed newlyweds are ripped apart when their sexually oppressed guardian angels meet and fall in love. Love can be a funny distraction.

The Pedaling:

(from Tim)

801 miles: a pedaling playwrights’ plea -- my slightly unconventional fundraiser for my play Soul mates don’t die --  will begin on August 4th as I ride my Trek 520 touring bike from Astoria, NY to Chicago, IL. It’s only 801 miles (actually 949 but who is counting) from the Hudson River, through not-so-bike-friendly New Jersey, the mountainous terrain of Pennsylvania, later Ohio, Indiana and then Illinois, where I finally arrive at the Chicago Fringe Festival.

As romantic it sounds for a writer to travel so organically to raise funds and attention for his art, this trek will not be easy physically or emotionally. But in the end, your donations will help get Soul mates don’t die off the ground and onto the Doppler Stage in Chicago. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the production of Soul mates don’t die.

The Plea:

Well for starters, I’m sweating. Not just because I’m biking almost 1,000 miles during the hottest two weeks of the year but because we (Never Assume Productions, the team behind this project) need funds to pay for lighting, costumes, rehearsal space, sets, press, programs and the full size mannequin that I wrote into the Soul mates don’t die script. The goal is $3000, which isn’t much for a play but it’s just enough for a team of brilliantly ambitious creatives to make it spectacular!

Why now? What makes this play so important?

Soul mates don’t die is a dark comedy about life, sex and death and the changes we are forced to make. Change serves as a reminder that everyone dies but we never truly lose soul mates. Soul mates come in all shapes, sizes and varying relationships. Whether between two lovers of the same or opposite sex, a father and son, or a woman and her cat or even a monkey and an elephant, once that bond is created it is infinite in any physical form.

And put more simply, this is a MUST SEE play! Whether a frequent theatre patron or not let Soul mates don’t die take your mind of things or let my journey inspire you to ride a bike!

Why write, why bike, why wear pants:

I am biking for the same reason I write plays. I need to, it’s who I am. As far as pants, without them biking wouldn’t be as fun or comfortable.

* If your reward includes tickets to the show but you are unable to make the trek to Chicago, please contact me for alternate arrangements.
