After five years of work, CINEMA KOMUNISTO has become the talk of film festivals around Europe. This feature documentary tells the story of the old communist film studios in Belgrade that are today a ghost town of abandoned sets and rotting costumes, but which in their golden age hosted stars such as Orson Welles, Sophia Loren, and Kirk Douglas. Yugoslav film legends such as Bata Zivojinovic and Veljko Bulajic are our guides behind-the-scenes of Yugoslav cinema, while Tito's personal projectionist who showed him a film every night for 32 years tells how President Tito's love of cinema influenced the history of Yugoslavia.
Screen International called CINEMA KOMUNISTO:
"a fascinating and absorbing documentary...a must for film fans...wonderfully tracks the history of former Yugoslavia through its cinema"
The film's world premiere took place in competition at the largest documentary film festival in the world, IDFA in Amsterdam, and since then CINEMA KOMUNISTO has began a triumphant festival tour in Europe, winning awards for Best Documentary Film (Trieste Film Festival) and the Audience Award (Views of the World/Cyprus). In February 2011, CINEMA KOMUNISTO became the first Serbian documentary in many years to enter regular cinema distribution in Serbia, screening in several multiplex cinemas in Belgrade. We are very proud that the film will soon be travelling to North America.
The US premiere of the film will take place at the Tribeca Film Festival, in the World Documentary Competition, after which we go on to San Francisco and HotDocs in Toronto.
We are using RocketHub to Fuel this North American Tour, which will include Q&A sessions after screenings, participation in panels of documentary scriptwriting, and many other special events.
Ideally, the result of a strong showing in these festivals would lead to a theatrical release of CINEMA KOMUNISTO in art-house cinemas in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadephia, Boston, Seattle, Toronto and Vancouver. We want you to participate in bringing CINEMA KOMUNISTO to North America. Without the costs of advertisement and publicity, the making and shipping of the film prints, and travel costs of the director and crew, we won't be able to achieve our goal of propelling the film forward.
In return for your Fuel, we are giving some extremely cool rewards (like hard to get tickets for Gala premiere and official screening of CINEMA KOMUNISTO at Tribeca Festival, rare vintage film posters of Yugoslav films from 50s and 60s and many more!).

SRPSKI:
