Bunmi Koko London Fashion Week Launch 2010

Bunmi Koko is a very promising emerging luxury fashion brand based in London. We have been featured on such notable platforms as Vogue.com, Glamour.com, The Washington Post, The Daily Telegraph, and The Independent. This summer we participated in Africa Fashion Week in South Africa and we were honoured to win the award for Emerging International Designer of the Year 2010.

Now, finally, after years of hard work and sleepless nights, we have achieved the opportunity of showcasing during London Fashion Week - a huge opportunity for any designer to break into the fashion world. The only problem is that we're broke, and we need the help of fans and generous supporters to make it happen!

The collection that we will be showcasing, entitled Matriarchy, is very close to the heart of Bunmi and Francis, the creative director and CEO of Bunmi Koko. Not only have they been slaving over this collection for months, but it is inspired by the touching story of Mary Slessor, Francis's great-great-grandmother, who is an honoured Scottish missionary that fought for women's rights in Bunmi and Francis's native Nigeria. In addition to her fight for women's rights, Mary Slessor worked extensively on stopping the tradition of killing of twins at infancy. She is currently featured on the Clydesdale Bank £10 note holding children in her arms alongside a map of Calabar, Nigeria. Francis's great-grandmother was one of a pair of twins saved by Mary Slessor in Calabar and raised by her in Scotland. The Matriarchy collection honours Mary Slessor's story by highlighting the cultural fusion between Scotland and Nigeria, along with expressing women's strength.

We have made it so far, thanks to the help of our friends, family, and supporters, and now we need you more than ever! Please help us make this dream a reality and allow Bunmi the chance to honour Mary Slessor's story through this remarkable collection!

($2000 is the bare minimum we need for this show, any extra funds will definitely be well used!)
