Curaçao, How, Now and Wow!
On Monday, November 27th, IQOS, in partnership with CHATA, organized the event 'Curaçao, Now, How and Wow! – A Step into the Future of Hospitality and Tourism', a breakfast seminar for the local hospitality industry at Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort. IQOS, a new development in the tobacco industry introduced to Curacao by Superior Tobacco Company Curacao, forms the key towards a smoke-free Curaçao, and the hospitality industry is cordially invited to help open the door to this bright future.
Globally, the leading tobacco company Philip Morris International (PMI) is committed to designing a smoke-free future, all over the world. PMI is building its future on smoke-free products that are a much better choice than cigarette smoking. PMI's smoke-free product portfolio contains four products in various stages of development and commercialization. IQOS is the first of these products and is already available in many markets around the world, amongst which Curaçao. "That's our goal", indicated Tim Corkum, director of 'reduced risk products' for PMI: "By organizing this event, we wanted to show Curaçao our vision. We want to be a part of this community. And as a member of a community you help in any which way you can. This event is a good example of giving meaning to that desire."
IQOS is a tobacco heating system. Over 3.7 million customers have switched from cigarettes to IQOS. The key-point: the tobacco in a cigarette burns at temperatures in excess of 600°C, generating smoke that contains harmful chemicals, while IQOS heats tobacco to much lower temperatures, up to 350°C, without combustion, fire, ash, or smoke. The lower temperature heating releases the true taste of heated tobacco. Because the tobacco is heated and not burned, the levels of harmful chemicals are significantly reduced compared to cigarette smoke.
Other advantages are: no ash, no smell of smoke, and thus neither any lingering smell left on hands, hair, clothes and breath. "IQOS was launched in Curaçao last May and is still enjoying a good performance", said Tim Corkum. "Now it is time to take a next step on the way to a smoke-free Curaçao", he continued. "PMI has partnered with CHATA, the Curaçao Hospitality and Tourism Association, in aims of looking at the future and contribute by positioning Curacao as a preferred destination, by presenting diverse opportunities to promote the island, backed-up by the experiences of innovation driven customers, a market that is expanding rapidly".
IQOS organized the event together with ELEQT. "I love it", said John van Vroenhoven, who attended the event as the director of worldwide tour organization Touracti.com. "I think it is great that a company such as PMI organizes an event like this. It will do them good, but moreover, it will benefit the hospitality sector on Curaçao and for that matter the whole of the island. I experienced it as an inspirational day."
During the event, six speakers highlighted the possibilities for the present and near future that hospitality sector has for Curaçao, such as Miles Mercera for CHATA; Jason R. Crain as a marketing specialist for Amazon; Bodino de Jong from Profound Projects, who introduced the innovating website "Islandfy"; Korra Pietersz-Juliana, who spoke about the amazing possibilities of a blooming wellness sector in Curaçao; and last but not least, the famous Igor Beuker, a futurist, marketing strategist and professional communicator.
"Today we have learned a lot", said Barbara Leigh, Founding Partner of the John Maxwell Team, Influential Energy. "We do not come together that often as members of the hospitality sector in Curaçao, and when I looked around I saw a lot of people that I did not know yet. Not only did we hear inspirational contributions by the speakers, we also had the chance to do some networking again. Very convenient. I truly welcome these kind of initiatives! I really think it can make a difference."
