I just completed my Master's degree in Aquatic & Fishery Sciences at the University of Washington, and am continuing with the Olden Research Lab as a research scientist. I have diverse research experience, ranging from harmful algal blooms in my undergraduate days to effects of climate change and invasive species on salmon for my graduate research. But I always do research focused on understanding and mitigating human impacts on aquatic ecosytems. I love new applications of technology that can make science cheaper and better, which is one of the many reasons soundscapes are so exciting to me.
I also spend a lot of time informally teaching and engaging people in conservation and research - you can check out past and current endeavors on my website laurenkuehne.wordpress.com. I'm a pretty big science nerd, so distinguishing my free time is tricky as it often includes building databases, reading about science, and making maps in ArcGIS. But I also like backpacking, running the occasional marathon, and writing.
