Faces

A resident of Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada, I successfully crowd-funded Faces: Newfoundland. Featured on the Official Rocket Hub Blog, the project took me on a photographic journey across the island of Newfoundland, with the intent to render the landscape and history of Newfoundland by photographing a small sample of its population.

The relevance of this part of my Faces series are the implied narratives and relationships that the viewer creates between people, even if those people are simply photographs on a wall. By removing the context, audio, and descriptions, I’m hoping that the viewer will fill in the blanks, as it’s interesting to see the stories and scenarios, developed by the viewer out of their own experiences.

Faces: Billboards, 2011 is the next step in my Faces series, for which I’ve received my first professional project grant from the Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council. This grant will be used to create five 4'x8' photographic billboards to be displayed during Stockpile Artists Collective’s 3rd annual indoor/outdoor exhibition/performance in the fields at Full Tilt Creative Centre - a 25 hectare artists residency, organic farm, and art gallery owned and operated by prominent Canadian performance artist Colette Urban, who was recently featured in Katherine Knight’s Pretend Not To See Me, the art of Colette Urban.
