My Web Site
Hi my name is Andrew Russell, and I’m an indie game developer.
My website is AndrewRussell.net, where you can play some of my games. There’s Dark, which was my entry in the 2009 Dream Build Play competition. And there’s Light Blocks, an iPhone game. There’s also Captain Stretchy-Arms, which is currently in development (latest playable version).
I have a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Software Engineering from the University of Queensland. My thesis topic was the application of level-of-detail principles to crowd simulations, particularly for use in games.
What all these games and my thesis have in common is that they run on XNA. I have been using Microsoft’s XNA Framework for a few years now and have become a bit of an expert at it. I’m the all time top answerer of XNA questions over on Stack Overflow as well as the new Game Development site on Stack Exchange.
Before I used XNA, I used OpenGL and C++. My knowledge of OpenGL has been really useful for doing iPhone development. And my experience with C++ has given me a deep understanding of the performance-issues surrounding game development.
All this has come together as the basis for ExEn, a high-performance implementation of XNA that runs on Silverlight and the iPhone. It’s what I used to make Light Blocks and I’m also using it in Captain Stretchy-Arms.
I am currently crowd-sourcing funding on RocketHub that will enable me to release ExEn as open source software (and do an Android port as well).
