Hi. I'm Rale Micic, a Serbian jazz guitarist and composer living in New York. I am currently seeking supporters to fuel the making of a music video for my song "Serbology".
I don't think I'm alone in believing that, like any other genre of music, jazz deserves good video.
How about you?
I have two amazing film makers working with me on this project - Writer/Director Greg MacDonald, who wrote a fantastic screenplay for this video and award-winning Director of Photography Jeff Turick. Greg's script really came out of the music, which was exciting for me to see, but the story that ultimately emerged stands on its own as well. So, as a great fan of the cinema, I'm pleased that this project will also be seen as a short movie -- which may also shed new light on the song itself.
This will be a thoroughly professional production shot on HD (for any of you tech buffs, we'll be shooting using Canon 5D!) and making good use of New York City as a location. All funds raised here will go toward equipment rental, crew, permits and other costs necessary to ensure the highest production values.
Because we will essentially be creating a "silent" movie based on instrumental music, I think this project has global appeal built into it. Obviously, the web, mobile devices. etc. make it possible to reach jazz fans in all kinds of new contexts . Though the web has kept music videos relevant, we are planning to reach audiences both within and outside the U.S. through more traditional television outlets as well.
The song "Serbology" is very close to my heart. As a jazz musician, I felt that I needed to explore my Serbian musical roots even more - in this case they simply came out and I felt great about the result. Even more gratifying, audiences responded almost immediately, even before the song was recorded. Everybody seemed particularly moved by my inclusion of traditional Serbian wedding drums in the finale. To learn more about me and my work, check out my website at www.ralemicic.com.
