Afia is a sustainable clothing line that uses the textiles and talent of Ghana, West Africa. We are pitching on the crowdfunding site RocketHub to raise seed funding to return to Ghana in March 2011 to produce the Summer 2011 Capsule Collection.

Hello my wonderful supporters, welcome to the AFIA project launch!
Afia is a sustainable women's apparel line that is fashion forward in style and purpose. This project originated while I was abroad in Ghana conducting a research project on the textile industry. I met with women vendors and seamstresses who desired to expand their business beyond the local market but were hindered by the lack of affordable capital and poor national infrastucture.
To facilitate their growth, Afia will act as a vehicle for economic mobility for women in Ghana by connecting their craft to the US market. The textiles will be purchased from the markets in Ghana and sewn by Ghanaian women into pieces that I design. The coined urban indigenous style will be a fusion of the traditional and vibrant prints of West Africa with American women's styles that resonate with pop culture.
With your help, I can return to Ghana this March to produce the Summer 2011 Capsule Collection. Paying seamstresses a fair wage, the impact of your contribution on job and wealth creation in Ghana will be immediate. As Afia grows, so will our social impact.
