Dear Friends & Community!
I was very proud to perform Peg-ass-us, at my alma mater’s Sex Week on February 4th! And I invite passionate allies of Peg-ass-us to crowd-fund our Yale performance!
Getting funding for bringing the show to Yale is proving a challenge. The student organizers have had several obstacles in planning this year’s events. One factor is that they have no corporate sponsors this year; this is in order to address administration's concerns about Sex Week. (Read more: Yale Students Propose Less Porny Sex Week, Jezebel)
From the organizers: "Sex Week 2012 strives to employ an open, educational, peer-led forum on sex, intimacy, and relationships, answering students' questions and concerns in order to enrich lives while preventing sexual violence and misconduct. This year, we're excited to bring guests across specialties and backgrounds in sex covering 50 events, including Jaclyn Friedman, author of Yes Means Yes, Gail Dines, anti-pornography scholar and author of Pornland, Maggie Mayhem, self-producing queer porn star and HIV activist, and Ann Olivarius, plaintiff in landmark civil rights case Alexander v Yale, one of the first female Rhodes Scholars, and founding partner of international corporate and feminist law firm McAllister Olivarius. With well-funded conservative groups on campus opposing our existence and an uncooperative administration afflicted with PR skittishness, Sex Week has encountered its fair share of adversity. But when it comes to sex, we know we're right in thinking Yale has room to grow. Please support us!"
Our funding goal is $1100. This is $1000 for the performance, plus $100 for fundraising costs.
Donate $20 for a seat at Peg-ass-us for a Yale student! Donate what you spend on a theater ticket. Or multiple tickets! All and any amounts are welcome! Help supply some awesome sex-ed!
Sincerely,
Sophie Nimmannit (SM '02)
Peg-ass-us is a sex-ed burlesque that is frank, informative, funny, romantic and heartfelt. I have been performing the show with my partner and co-creator, and now fiance John Leo, since 2008. We have performed in NYC, San Francisco (where we won Best Comedy at the S.F. Fringe), Montreal, Seattle, Portland, and Juneau, as well as Bard College (John’s alma mater) and Sex Week at Brown. One succinct audience review: “Walks the fine line between humor, education, and challenge to an audience.” Watch the teaser!

Note: The Sex Week organizers continue to pursue funding for us. Should they succeed, or should this effort exceed our goal, your donations will go directly to subsidize another campus performance in 2012. We are in talks for one other campus this year, and can always pursue more, especially with support!
