Our Story

We are a group of 3 students at Michigan State University developing a new social media website called PohVoe. PohVoe, takes social media to the next level and is designed to capture the social life and atmosphere of an entire college town. Most social media sites are designed to project an individuals personality. Pohvoe takes those concepts and applies them to places (college towns) instead. Individual PohVoe pages will be developed for individual colleges and will allow members of that institution to post pictures, videos, and music to the page and then vote collectively to determine the content and overall feel of the page.  Content for local businesses, events, sports and organizations will also be posted on the page. The idea is to create a site that all people can go to and get a feel for the social atmosphere and activities before even visiting that college town.

The Impact

Imagine being able to visit PohVoe and get a feel for the activities, events, restaurants, nightlife and social atmosphere of any college town or city before even visiting. Visitors to the city would already have a good idea of the places they would want to visit before going there. Applicants to colleges would be able to factor in the social life, activities and organizations that they may want to join before even applying. Local businesses and organization would have a central site to place information enabling them to reach a larger audience. All of this content would be posted and voted on by the people who actually live in that city. This is vision of the Pohvoe team.

The Importance of Your Contribution

PohVoe has received a small amount of funding from a few private investors. Many have already begun to realize the potential of PohVoe, however the funding is not nearly enough to make PohVoe become a reality. The information, updating and functionality of PohVoe make it an expensive project to launch. Thats where you come in. The money received for this project will go towards start up cost, promotional fees and the cost associated with expanding PohVoe to other universities. Your support is essential for us to expand PohVoe across the country as quickly as possible. View the perks section of our project to see the rewards for each level of giving. We promise that PohVoe will always remain a social media site with content determined by the actual members of each PohVoe page. We want creative control to remain in the hands of the users. Users having the ability to determine the look and overall feel of a page that represents a community is what makes Pohvoe different from any other site. You're ideas are what keep Pohvoe running and we want to follow these ideals from the very start. If you pledge to Pohvoe, post your suggestion for the universities that you would like to see Pohvoe to expand first. We will do everything within our power to expand to areas that receive the most suggestions.
