My name is Kate Hawkings, and I'm launching this rocket in attempts to raise the funds necessary to produce my second novel. I need your help to bring this project to life.
The Gilded Blade
The Gilded Blade is the first in a new fantasy series revolving around Maliana, a young half-elvish woman. Found as a child, she has no recollection of anything before her fifth birthday, only horrific nightmares of a day she doesn't remember. Adopted by the king, Mali is restless. Needlework holds no appeal, nor do any of the other feminine pursuits. Instead, Mali is drawn to the lessons of the boys, swordplay and strategy.
The day before the princess' wedding, the Northern Queen's forces attack, attempting to capture King Atherdon's true daughter Adelynne. Mali saves her, only to be abducted in her stead. The Gilded Blade tells the beginning of Mali's story, as she fights to return to the Kingdom she now calls home and the man who has promised her his heart. She must fight against the syrens' curse, and her own nature as the truth of her lineage comes to light.
The Rocket Fuel
As a self-published author, it's important to me that I maintain an exceptionally high quality of work. There is already enough prejudice against independent writers, there's no need to feed the flames by releasing substandard stories. I pride myself in taking the steps necessary to prove that not all indie writing is simply self-published because commercial publishers rejected it.
The fuel donated to power my rocket will be used in the production of The Gilded Blade, including, although not limited to the following: content editing, line edits, proofreading, formatting, cover design as well as shipping and handling.
What if the tank overflows?
If, by some miracle, this project fuels over 100% the excess funds will be used to produce my next book, the second of The Chimaera Chronicles.
The Rewards
The rewards are geared towards those excited about my first novel: The Sphinx Project. These have been designed as a sort of pre-order package, and therefore everything unless otherwise specifed is The Sphinx project related.
All rewards will be distributed at the end of the fueling period, although the ebooks of The Sphinx Project will be distributed on its release day.
About Katherine Hawkings
I was born in New Zealand, but currently live in Leeds, England. I've always been a daydreamer, and books were my constant companions as I grew older. I never expected to become an author, but I wouldn't change it for anything. I love writing because it gives me an outlet for all those voices inside my head, constantly telling me about places and people far removed from any I've ever seen or met.
My first novel, The Sphinx project, is to be released on February 28th 2012. It is the first in a series called The Chimaera Chronicles about human girls created from a combination of homo sapien and animal genes.
Apart from writing I enjoy baking, martial arts, ice hockey, and visiting new places.
