I make handmade jewelry as a creative outlet, and during the holiday season I sold that jewelry at vendor shows. I met so many talented artisans that love what they do and WOW do they make phenomenal products. That talent should be exposed to the public and appreciated. That is where I come in.
I am expanding a love for the handmade community by opening a boutique that offers high quality handmade things with locally sourced products - 90% of artists in my network are in the Los Angeles area, so availability is guaranteed. The location (to be announced in 2013/2014) will have an extra room with the ability to host art & craft classes or to be used as a photography studio. This multiple-purpose room enables the business to be a creativity hub for the community and makes art accessible. I have an 18-month timeframe to get my plan and funds in order. In 24 months I will be hosting a grand opening event.
Step 1 of this process involves getting business paperwork filed and ready. Through LegalZoom.com I can file all the paperwork necessary to get a business name, file for all licenses, and get a Federal Tax ID #. All money raised will go towards this business plan. Any money received over the modest goal of $520 will fold into the next step. Progress will be posted here and on the MyDaniMonster - Handmade Jewelry FB page.
What is different about my idea: My artisan network includes unique must-have items with quality ingredients, unique flavor, and a pension for the darker side of fashion. I'm going to be carrying goth, victorian, steampunk, playa wear, and will have original artwork covering the walls. We'll have fashion jewelry and gifts available as well to make sure there's something for everyone - and its all handmade with heart. All creatives will be featured on the website and all of you will become a part of the handmade movement.
