“A catless writer is almost inconceivable. It's a perverse taste, really, since it would be easier to write with a herd of buffalo in the room than even one cat; they make nests in the notes and bite the end of the pen and walk on the typewriter keys.” - Barbara Holland.
So what's the deal?
The Creative Author Team is the newest, must-have version of the cat (though I don't for a minute suggest you pick one over the other - we lack fur). We're going to create the ultimate writing resource, club, magazine, thing and sell access for $15 per month.
Tales from the trenches and writing battles, grammar tips, crafting characters, building or destroying suspense; over time we're going to cover every aspect of creative writing known to man and probably a few that aren't. We're also going to have a community forum, competitions, critiques, Q & A sessions with the C.A.T. and other experts and the occasional giveaway.
Basically, the holy grail of 'What do I do next?'
Why I'm doing it / Who's going to benefit:
I've been writing since I was a kid, grew up dreaming of fantasy worlds and held the tentative wish to be a writer close to my heart. Personally, I'm far from being an expert; despite wanting to write I went and learned other things like Interactive Media, Blogging, and so on. I do, however, know what I (the typical writer wannabe) and others like me (ok, maybe less typical writers in training) need and want to know.
The idea is to build a place where we can not only gain access to tons of information - because lets be real, you can find that on the internet for free if you look really really hard - but you can connect with writers and editers of all different levels, make friends, work on projects together (or not), and receive a truly personal experience built by the team and by the others using the site.
It's for anyone that's ever dreamed of more and seen words as the way forward.
What is the C.A.T.?
I've mentioned C.A.T. a couple of times, so lets just clear up who they actually are! The CAT is the core expert writing team for the subscription site; I can't reveal their individual identities yet but I can tell you I've called dibs on the whiskers.
They're the ones that will make the main content, answer Q&A questions, moderate the forums, and generally provide the body for the community's heart. We'll all be available for questions regularly, and in some shape or form they've all been where us newbies are now and passed it.
But enough creative rambling from me! Here's how I plan to spend the money;
- £200 will go straight into the initial content for the subscription site. It's only fair to pay the team for their work before launch, so this is pretty crucial!
- £200 will go to setup fees; hosting, domain name, payment systems, web design, crowdfunding fees stuff like that.
- £50 is honestly to give a tiny bit of wiggle room, I can see this going into advertising or adding an extra layer of awesome to the site if there aren't any massive emergencies I haven't forseen before launch.
And if we're lucky enough to gain more than our target?
That goes straight into more articles and initial content for everybody. Possibly even a couple of interviews with non-team members!
A brief word on how RocketHub Works:
1. RocketHub is not an investment or charity. It is an exchange: funds from fans for rewards from me.
2. It's an All & More funding mechanism: if I don't reach my financial goal I get to keep what I raise. But if I do reach my goal, I get access to exciting opportunities.
What Can I do?
So if this all sounds as super special awesome to you as it does to me then help out by donating whatever you can spare to get us off the ground. $25? Great, thanks! $10? That's cool too. $1? Still appreciate the support and you'll all get your name on the Acknowledgements page if you want it!
