Two Square Feet-Short Film Completion Fund

Jelly Beans (sample work)

This is a video I shot in 2 hours with a Flip camera, my son and about $5 of gas. It has a pretty loose structure (unlike my other work) but lots of heart and a sense of fun (like most of my work).

Two Square Feet-Short Film Completion Fund

Two Square Feet is a 6-minute film by Ruth Lawrence that won the 2011 RBC Michelle Jackson Emerging Filmmaker Award last October. Her previous films as writer and/or director-Sweet Pickle, Bark, Less Than Zero, Jelly Beans-have played across North America.  The award provides over $40,000 in services and cash towards the making of the film. The film shoots in mid-January with an expected completion of June 2012.

Two Square Feet stars Jeanne Beker, host of CTV's Fashion Television, in the lead role of Pearl.

Here's the story:

Pearl leaves the security of her home after her children are grown. Craving independence, she begins to doubt herself once she arrives at the tiny garret of her longtime friend, Lucy. After an odd but magical night there, will she be confident enough to step out on her own?

This film has drawn incredible award-winning talents together: Brad Gover as producer, Scott McClellan as cinematographer,  Justin Simms as editor, Kelly Bruton as Production Designer, Anita Reilly McGee as Executive Producer/Mentor, Juno winner Amelia Curran as composer...and many, many more talented folks behind the scenes and in front of the camera.

We've been eagerly anticipating telling this story for almost 2 years and we're racing towards the first shoot day in mid-January.  The prize allows us to film on 35 mm and work with the best support services available...BUT we need a bit more cash to enter post production (this covers everything from editing, special effects, and finally the score).

If we raise additional funds (past our goal), we can actually start marketing the film, submitting it to festivals, etc.  This is the area where most independent films-short or feature-fall short of money and beautiful works sometimes do not get seen by enough people.  We'd LOVE to avoid that by reaching, then exceeding, our goal. Two Square Feet is small but, with your support, we can build on it!

RocketHub is not an investment or charity. It is an exchange: funds from supporters, rewards from us.
