A Choice Affair Side A uses six recognizable songs from popular culture that creates a poetically everyday soundtrack. Performers visually represent these songs through contemporary dance, influenced by theatrical and commercial disciplines. There is an encompassing theme that ties the show together, much in the way one would compile a list of songs into a playlist.
Each song or piece could stand on its own or be grouped into excerpts, creating sentimental, glamourous treats!
A Choice Affair Side A aims to generate an experience for audience members much like a sold out rock concert. We want the public to feel deeply connected to contemporary material so that it becomes personally significant; so we are nostalgic at times, contemplative, playful, angsty, gutsy, and full of bravado.
A Choice Affair Side A is important to us and the community because we need to share our stories, and be a part of something bigger than ourselves. In producing this work we all get to laugh at common frustrations, celebrate our ups and downs. We reflect the individual, the family and the community through dance and music.
The works we have already made a start on are to Mother Mother's "Hayloft", Kanye West's "Amazing" and Diana Ross and the Supremes' "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me". The music spans generations; the content speaks to all. The point of view is tenacious, hip and clever.
With the funds we hope to raise on RocketHub, we will pay dancers for rehearsals and choreographic input, rent studio space, and hold classes for the public: all in order to create A Choice Affair Side A by March 2, 2012. We will perform A Choice Affair Side A on March 3, 2012 for a paying audience.
We will put any funds over 100% of our asking total towards creating A Choice Affair Side B.
RocketHub is not an investment or charity. It is an exchange: funds from fans for rewards from me.
It's an All & More funding mechanism: if I don't reach my financial goal I get to keep what I raise. But if I do reach my goal, I get access to exciting opportunities.
We want to keep the rock-star rolling in contemporary dance. We've made a start. We need your help.
