I'm a New York-based pianist/composer who has been featured twice on National Public Radio's Weekend Edition Sunday and once on Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz. I've won the Great American Jazz Piano Competition and am a current finalist for a Fulbright award. I'm fluent in Portuguese (and in English!) and much of my music- and my life in general- is marked by a deep desire to communicate in and through different cultures and musics.
My most recent release, From This Place, featured my liturgical jazz with musicians including John Patitucci and Donny McCaslin, and continues to bring me in contact with new fans who often tell me that they never listened to jazz before hearing me! My earlier releases featured a mixture of jazz, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban music, and all of these musics influence my original compositions and arrangements.
My upcoming Chopin release (currently untitled) again reaches beyond the jazz audience to lovers of classical music, as well as to the average jane or joe who just enjoys solo piano. I'm excited to see where this new recording will lead, and thank you for joining me on the journey!
