Wine origins, American Grand Cru Vineyards

Working through the organization called The American Grand Cru Society, we are about to embark on a campaign to classify the best in class vineyards across the USA. This endeavor has been a large part of my life over the past 5 years, spending plenty of time and resources to do the required early stage research and development.  Now we have reached the moment in time to encourage some fresh oxygen, new players, and cultivate a community of wine lovers to help in taking this effort to the next level.   

Best in class vineyards alone, produce best in class wines.  Grand Cru is a universally known trade term to describe best in class vineyards that identify a specific place of origin, and vineyard specific qualities that express themselves in unique wine influences too.  (This is counter to mass produced wines which may be fine for some, just really not what this endeavor is all about.)

We first set out over five years ago to protect the term "Grand Cru' from being mis-used in the future, by properly registering the term with the US Patent and Trade Office and being provided the protections that ensued.  Now the term can not be used legally by any self appointment marketing campaign.  Step one completed.  

To keep this focused on a key objective, which is to provide value to the wine consumer first and foremost, we need to start building that community of consumers for The American Grand Cru Society.  That is the objective and we need help from people like you and other wine loving fuelers to help raise membership awareness, and funds.  We have put together some nice benefits to offer to you for helping to do just that. 

We will need our new members to find us more new members, as that collective empowerment will not only provide resources and build awareness, but will start us on the path for the first round of pulling together a respected judges panel to launch the first round of making Grand Cru vineyard status recognition decisions. 

Vineyards owners gaining this prestigious status will not pay for the recognition, and will have earned it by virtue to access to the vineyards selected.  Those worthy producers with Grand Cru vineyard access will have a formal set of the benefits available to them in making good use of the recognition, for promotional value and for a specific iinitial period of time.  After which being re-certified if you will to protect against any future neglect.  Again, panels of credible experts will be selected and empowered to make Grand Cru vineyard classification status recognition under the authority of The American Grand Cru Society. 

There is lots more to share, but suffice it to say for now that we have thoroughly mapped out the areas that need to be protected to ensure this will become a highly credible, valuable source of information, for wine consumers.

The work ahead is serious, and we are looking for wine consumers to join this community in support of these efforts.  The money raised to meet our initial goal will provide The American Grand Cru Society our first few hundred innaugural members.  It will also fund the benefits outlined  in the various membership categories offered, recruit wine expert writers to contribute to the news letters, plus provide the first outside seed money to start down the path toward Grand Cru vineyard classifications.
