Duo & Trio: Chamber Music with Flute
ANNOUNCEMENT January 11: I'm excited to tell you that two generous patrons have given offline donations of $1050. The Guild a lot closer to the project goal than it looks!
The Project
Two new music creations for two chamber music ensembles:
Piece #1: for the Addington-Arnold Duo
Ashley Addington, flute & Rachel Arnold, cello
Piece #2: for the informally named Yost trio
Sarah Tomasek, flute; Shaylor Lindsay, piano; Alan Yost, percussion
I've heard all these musicians -- excellent, expressive performers -- I'm excited to be creating music for them. My nature-infused contemporary-classical composer-voice finds great partners in both these ensembles.
Your support fuels a commission fee for the composer, fees for the musicians for recording the music, and money to press the CD, make initial copies of the printed scores, and produce a few T-shirts and tote bags. 6% covers the fiscal sponsorship fee. Additional money will support a concert and recording sessions for other pieces in the queue.
At the start of the composing process…
I've got some musical ideas running around my head:
-- cello launching pad -- flute flying - roles reversed - focus on interesting sounds - refocus on melody - how much sound can a cello and flute make? How tiny a sound can they make together?
-- cascades - waterfalls in Vermont, fueled by Irene's floods, percussion-piano blending, flute connecting, one line, then diverging -- in northern Vermont mountains, it was drama not destruction.
It’s hard to share the process because I never know whether an idea will stick until I’ve had it around awhile. So bear with me and I’ll try to reveal some of the process as I go.
Guild Background
I started the Spindrift Commissioning Guild in 2005 because it seemed like a great way to involve people in the music creation process. i hoped it would be more effect at rallying support than asking for grants and waiting to win contests. We don't have aristocratic patrons anymore, so we need a more distributed type of support. If you like my music, you can help make more of it by supporting a project. Doesn't it seem logical?
Thank you to all the guild supporters of past projects! You can read more about Guild projects at my Spindrift Music Company web site.
