What is Tampa Bay Plays?

  • Tampa Bay Plays is a new non-profit Play Festival which has been launched to grow the Tampa Bay Playwriting scene and help local writers develop new works by providing a nurturing and supportive environment for playwrights.
  • In winter of 2013 we plan to workshop FIVE new plays and are raising $60,000 to provide work to local writers, artists, stage managers, and to keep the arts thriving and growing in St. Pete and Tampa. We believe Tampa Bay is awesome. We want to help make it MORE awesome by keeping talented artists in the area.
  • Our tagline is "Writing local, aiming global." Theater can transform a community.  We believe that our workshops will challenge the way local artists approach playwriting, leading to a collaborative effort that involves everyone in St. Pete.  Not only are the "visible" elements of theater (the actors, scenery, etc) necessary to create new works, but the audience members can be the most important. We plan to workshop new plays that push the envelope, that try something new, and that create new theatregoers and arts patrons.  The Arts matter--and we want members of St. Pete--young and old, sports buffs and techies, party-goers and the reclusive types, to get involved in the process.  Creativity is collaborative. And so is playwriting!

What is this 60:25 event and why should I care?
  • Theater is not just for "Theater people." In 60:25 we have asked twenty-five influential non-playwright members of the community to write a one minute play. We hope that, if our local citizens, see our local celebrities working creatively, they will be inspired to get more involved in the play process.
  • The first 60:25 One Minute Play Fundraiser will be held on Thursday, December 1st, 2011 at 7:30 pm at the Studio@620 in downtown St. Pete.  We hope to have a second event in 2012, as well.
  • We need your support to make this event a success and to get Tampa Bay Plays off the ground and out into the world. Starting a new non-profit costs money. Compensating our talent, finding a grant writer, and preparing a successful event all require funds.  Your donation will make this project possible.

Theater is a community event. You don't need to be a playwright to write a good play. You don't need to be an artist to participate in the creation of new works. Everyone can be a theater person. Everyone can get involved.  Think you can't? On Thursday, December 1st, 2011 Tampa Bay Plays will present twenty-five one minute plays, written by local celebrities. The theater is for everyone. Join the creativity.

60:25 supports Tampa Bay's newest theater non-profit, Tampa Bay Plays. Tampa Bay Plays is a non-profit, upcoming Play Festival. The event was launched to nurture the Tampa Bay Playwriting scene and help local writers develop new works. If the unique creativity housed in Tampa Bay is fostered by our growing sense of community, we’ll build a successful Festival that will leave it’s mark.

By supporting Tampa Bay Plays, you are ensuring that local writers will continue to delight our community with meaningful stories, unforgettable characters and lively entertainment long into the future.
