Bobby Belfry & The David Budway Trio: One Lucky Day!

Hello to my wonderfully supportive friends!  I'm really excited to be "fueling" my labor of love via the brilliance that is RocketHub.

My latest recording is a collection of jazz standards that I have been performing in the NYC club scene for 15 years. It really is the brainchild of the AMAZING David Budway, who is a jazz giant, to put it mildly.

I NEED YOU TO JOIN ME ON THE LAUNCH PAD! I've been trying very hard to raise the funds to complete the album, but the bank who owns my house won't let me skip a couple of mortgage payments to subsidize a CD-go figure.  We bailed them out and now they won't let a month or two go by so I can make music? Ingrates! David and I have recorded all the basic instrumental tracks and most of my vocals, but we still have strings, horns, mixing, mastering, photography/artwork, and printing of the compact discs, etc., to complete the product-not to mention the licensing fees to the songs I didn't write (12 out of 13).

This is where I need your help in turning One Lucky Day into a reality. If the 350 fans I have on Facebook alone contribute $20 each, I will have exceeded my goal of $4,000.  The album will actually cost upwards of $6,000, so hopefully there will be remaining contributions that could go to promoting the record with a reputable PR firm.  However, since RocketHub is not an investment or charity, but an exchange (funds from fans for rewards from me), it's all or nothing: if I don't reach my financial goal, you get your money back.

The "Budman" and I have been performing together for many years. After our last appearance at Feinstein's, he strongly suggested we get that particular show on record, as the music, arrangements and the overall vibe of the set has a very strong through line of love, overcoming loss, and transcendence-something Bud and I have been no stranger to in recent years. Our take(s) on Moon River and Stardust, for example, are letters into the ether for our beloved family members who have passed, but whose spirits live on in our everyday lives and in the music we have made together.

BUT WAIT!  THERE'S MORE! One Lucky Day is anything but a maudlin collection of songs.  It also includes the scatty bebopper Until I Met You, and the revivifying, When The Sun Comes Out. AND...(wait for it), on my song, (the rerecording of) One of These Days, which appeared on my first cd, Imperfect Rhymes, one of my musical heroes from the very first time I heard Billy Joel's New York State of Mind, Richie Cannata, will be playing saxophone!  I used to look at this dude on the back cover of the classic LP, The Stranger as if somehow I knew we'd make music together-one of these days.

The album is rounded out by some of the most beautiful and, frankly, important songs of the last century.  It truly is a trek through the ups and downs of our individual and collective life experience.

I hope you'll come on this adventure with me.  Times are tough in just about every conceivable way.  The uplifting message these songs bring could only contribute to the mass healing which I believe is underway.  I hope you'll be a part of it with me in making my (lucky) day!

Thank you,

Bobby Belfry
