Onward Bound is the title of my Western/Fantasy adventure series. Imagine a world where the gunslingers of the old west face perils such as wizards and monsters of the fantasy realms.
The Ballad of Serrada Blue is a projected series of audio dramas focusing on a lady gunslinger as she adventures across the land known as the Frontier. We actually recorded the first volume back in 2006 and did a limited release. It had a good reception and we'd like to do more.
Onward Bound and its associated projects is my life's work and passion. I've been a storyteller for most of my life and with modern media, I have the resources and avenues necessary to share my vision with the world. It is my firm belief stories connect us as a people, as a world, and I'd like to make my contribution.
I've chosen to utilize audio drama as a storytelling medium because of its long history, its noble roots and its enduring status as performance art. Its profile deserves to be raised and I wish to contribute to this as well.
This initial drive is to establish the necessary equipment and resources to produce further programs to distribute via podcast, CD, and hopefully radio. These include:
-Recording equipment: microphones, headphones, cables, portable sound booths. These are definite must-haves.
-Production Expenses: Not all my performers are going to be in the same area so a fair amount of driving is in order, and well...you've all seen the price of gas these days.
As for any fundage exceeding the goal? Well first off, AWESOME. Second, it will go towards improving the product.
-Distribution: This will include fees for online podcasting services, print-on-demand services for professionally pressed CDs. Otherwise, it's pretty much going to be home-pressed off a CD burner.
-Compensation of the Talent: The majority of performers will be friends, family, and volunteers looking to get in on the fun. No one's ever asked for a cent. However, If I can raise enough to offer some sort of compensation, even if it's just pizza and soda during recording sessions, then I'd like to do so.
-Additional technology: Sound effects not in the public domain, additional software. To be honest I'd prefer to have a dedicated computer system for this as my laptop is fairly old, but that's a want rather than a need.
-Professional Help: No, not that kind. It's entirely possible I may have to draft the services of a specialist for a particular function at one point or another. I'm an amateur, after all. If it becomes apparent I need to draft assistance...well, I'd like to be able to offer them something other than a smile and cookies.
That's about it, really. This is by far the most ambitious project I've undertaken, and any contributions are greatly appreciated. Make no mistake, I do plan to do this project regardless of how much money I raise, but any financial support will improve the quality of the end product as well as expedite its completion.
Production on The Ballad of Serrada Blue: Chapter 2 is set to begin in January 2012, for release in Spring/Summer 2012. Any donation rewards will be attributed to this specific release.
"1. RocketHub is not an investment or charity. It is an exchange: funds from fans for rewards from me.
2. It's an All & More funding mechanism: if I don't reach my financial goal I get to keep what I raise. But if I do reach my goal, I get access to exciting opportunities."
