Meet Wendy Harper. Her Goal is to walk 1km by her next Birthday, September 26th 2012.
An easy goal for most. Here's her courageous story...
In 1999 Wendy was in a tragic car accident. Doctors said she'd never walk again. Six months later she walked.
In 2002 Wendy was in a terrible fire. She spent two years in burn unit and nearly 6 more years in bed waiting for surgery. Doctors said she would never walk again...again.
Finally she received the surgery on her legs she needed. Then began 7 months of intense physio therapy and Wendy the Miracle Woman didn't just stand, but she walked 70 feet with a walker.
Here's her current challenges...
- Her physio program is over and she's gone from doing 3 hours per day to 3 hours per week...her body is growing weaker because of this.
- The hospital food she's eating is not helping her body to heal.
- Due to her enormous transformation, many of her clothes do not fit anymore.
- Wendy gets a disability chq for $896 per month, but after Mount Saint Mary's Hospital takes off the room and board, she is left with just $20 for herself.
- Since they began charging her money in 2009 Wendy has put over $22,000 on her credit card.
- Wendy has NO MONEY and NO INCOME.
Here's what she'd do with the $50,000...
- She will receive physio therapy EVERYDAY!!
- She will go on a better, more nutritious food program to help her body's healing be accelerated.
- She will buy clothes that fit her body and needs.
- She will be able to use city transportation.
- She will be able to take her 20 year old son out for lunches and adventures.
- She will be at ease and be able to focus on her healing journey!
Here's what she'll do if she receives more than her goal...
- She will first pay off her huge Visa debt!
- She will then enroll in an art program because she used to be an incredible artist.
- If enough money came in, she could enroll in an in-home care service so she could move out of the hospital...this would make it possible for her to live with her son
- If more than enough money was raise, she will create a fund that helps others similar to Wendy achieve their goals and get their life back!
Thank you for helping to support Wendy on her journey of getting her walking legs back. All donations are appreciated. All emails are joyfully and received. And if you pass this story on, we thank you for spreading the word!
