Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Marjorie Salvaterra graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and now makes her home in Los Angeles. Her interest in the theatrical began a transformation from acting to photography after playing the leading role in “The Faculty Lounge,” a black and white film by the late photographer, Herb Ritts. Salvaterra's exhibitions include: The Month of Photography Los Angeles - opening solo exhibit 2011; Clark-Oshin Gallery - Los Angeles - June 2011; Rencontres d’Arles, Arles, France; “Classic Camera Show,” Rayko Photo Center, San Francisco; MOPLA Group Show, Los Angeles; “Contrast LA,” at A&I Gallery, Los Angeles; “Alternative Photography,” at Julia Dean Gallery, Venice, California; and the “Human + Being” show at The Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado. Her work was included in the George Eastman House Museum auction at Sotheby’s, New York and she was runner-up for the 2009 and 2010 Berenice Abbott Prize for Emerging Photographers, and the 2010 Palm Springs Photo Festival.
