"Ghost Town" - an international dance project

Abandoned theme parks, forgotten malls and cities; giant structures built to house the glory of man's innovation and invention, left to rot. Classic carnival characters, theme park icons, and mayors of abandoned cities left homeless, wandering the world, trying to remember where they come from and find a new home.

On March 8, 9 and 10, 2012, The 8068 Project will present our debut dance work Ghost Town: inhabitants of the abandoned city at the Adelaide Fringe. Directed and choreographed by Cera Byer (San Francisco, CA), the cast of dancers from across Australia and the US are devising and rehearsing Ghost Town via skype and video, and will meet in person for the first time for an intensive rehearsal period the week before our first performance.

"For as long as I can remember I've been obsessed with abandoned theme parks, early 1900's carnival midways, the former sites of state fairs, forgotten malls and cities; giant structures built to house the glory of man's innovation and invention, then left to be taken over by birds, bugs, and bones. Ghost Town starts with the premise that classic carnival characters, theme park icons, and the mayors and dignitaries of abandoned cities are now homeless and wandering the world, trying to remember where they come from and find a new home.

This dance theater exploration is set to a moving backdrop of photos and videos of abandoned theme parks, shopping centers, and cities from all over the world."

We, the cast, have funded everything out of our own pockets so far, but need a little help with our venue. The Myer Centre has generously invited us to use the empty space on their fourth floor (just below the abandoned Dazzleland theme park) free of charge, but we're now facing the challenge of turning this space into a theatre. We need to install sound, lighting and projection equipment, arrange seating for our audience, and bring the Fringe atmosphere up into the venue.

Any funds raised over and above our goal will help to reimburse dancer's expenses (accommodation, flights, food, costumes etc).

Tickets to Ghost Town are now available from the Fringe website, and we'd love to see you there.
