My Teacher's Bass

Nick tells the story about how his double bass literally exploded on a gig in Flint, Michigan. I explain what needs to be done to the instrument and ask for your help in getting the repairs completed.

My Teacher's Bass

My bass teacher is a working musician in Flint, Michigan who plays an instrument that is a "diamond in the rough." It needs to have the top removed and a large crack repaired. These expensive repairs can only be done by a highly skilled bass lutheir, and he will be without the bass for an extended period. I designed this project to make it possible to have the instrument restored despite cost and lack of an instrument.

I will loan Nick my double bass during the time his bass is in the shop. We will document the whole process and involve our patrons throughout. My teacher is a fantastic bassist, and finding patrons that will help restore his bass to its full potential will greatly enhance the local music scene in our struggling town of Flint, Michigan.

Additional Funds

$2,500 is the minimum required to repair this crack and fund the modest rewards we plan to provide.  If we are fortunate enough to raise more than $2,500 for this project, the additional money will be applied to further restoration of the instrument.  In the event that we raise more money than the cost of a total restoration of the bass, we will dontate the remainder to the Flint Institute of Music.
