Casey Black - The Five Year Record

"Casey has restored my faith in the lost art of damn fine songwriting." ~Tricia Halloran, KCRW Los Angeles

Dear Friends,

It's been five years since I recorded my last record, The Glass is Half, and a lot has happened since then. I moved from Los Angeles to Baton Rouge and from Baton Rouge back to Los Angeles. I worked as a barista, a janitor, a personal assistant, a person who carries boxes for people, a librarian, a blogger and a teacher. I started school at a community college in Santa Monica, moved to New York two and a half years ago, and completed a degree in Creative Writing at Columbia University. Two of my songs were placed on TV shows, I collaborated on a seven-minute musical for a film festival, and, several months ago, I happened on a group of brilliant songwriters in Brooklyn with whom I now play weekly around New York. In the late-late nights of the past five years I've continued writing, and now I've more than two records-worth of songs to make one record. So. . .

I'm recording a new record and then doing a European tour to promote it (!). I've just begun recording with friend and producer E.W. Harris, and I plan to be done by the middle of October. Critics are already saying it's the greatest record ever almost made in the history of music and mankind.

So let me tell you why I've just told you all this.

Once I finish, I'll have no way to mix, master, print and promote. I'm asking for your fuel. What is fuel? Well, here's how it works. You fuel my project with your dollars, and my project fuels you back with rewards. This all happens on this wondrous site called RocketHub, which is run by two wondrous gentlemen right here in the city. RocketHub is no investment or charity. It's an exchange: funds from fans for rewards from me. For example, $15 gets you the new record, hot off the presses, signed and sent to your doorstep. Or maybe you want a private concert, for you, your friends, and your lovers. For $500 I'll play that concert wherever you choose and I'll give all of your friends and lovers free cd's. There are plenty of rewards in between these price levels, too. This here RocketHub is risk-free. If I don't reach a full tank by my 45-day deadline, well, all the money goes right back to you–every nickel and penny–and I resort, again, to petty theft.

Thanks so much for checking my page out, and please check back as I'll be updating often with songs, videos, video performances and blogs. Also, if you know anyone who might be interested in fueling this project, please forward this email to them. As a token of my love for you, I have attached a free mp3 to this email: it's to be the first song on the new record. I hope you love it as much as the critics (almost) do.

I am humbled and inspired by your support, and I think you are very attractive.

Love Big Time,
Casey Black

*If my project fuels over 100%, I'll put it into tour support.
