The film, the music, the event:
Imagine dozens of musicians spilling out of the alleys of Jackson Square to convene at sunset to pick up crowds from the last of the day's French Quarter Festival events for an old style street-filling “second line” parade. View the type of parade we hope to emulate at http://vimeo.com/20946242 in a clip from our film.
The brass bands we hope to gather will kick off two screenings of our film, The Sound After the Storm, which puts the lens on the lives and music of players listed below and on the cherished, but vulnerable, New Orleans.
The parade starts in Jackson Square, 6:30 on April 8 and 9. Parades leed to the film screenings across the square beginning at 7:15, La Petit Theatre: 616 Saint Peter St.
We are using Rockethub to give lovers of New Orleans music the power to keep this old tradition alive by fueling the work of New Orleans players including Dr. Michael White, The Regeneration Brass Band, The Next Generation Brass Band, The Treme Brass Band, Uncle Lionel, Grand Marshal Lillian Boutté and others.
New Orleans music supporters can help keep the music alive! Donations will fuel 20+ musicians for 2-3 nights of playing and will support minor projection costs necessary for screenings of the film at Le Petit Theatre. We will donate 5% of funds raised to The Musician's Clinic, the organization that continues to supply musicians of New Orleans with health care in their time of economic instability. One hundred percent of funds raised beyond our goal will be given to the Musician's Clinic.
Open call to musicians in the crowd: In the tradition of the second line parade, guest musicians will be welcome! Lillian Boutté, our Grand Marshal, invites donor and non-donor musicians to join in and see how it feels to second line through the Quarter on a spring evening down in New Orleans.
Many thanks for your support,
Ryan, Patrik, and Sven - Directors of The Sound After the Storm
