Hello everybody,
As some of you know, I moved from Denver to New York City in August of 2010. Since I got here, I have been overwhelmed by the extraordinary musical talent I've encountered, and equally humbled by the way I've been accepted by the Big City Folk. A vague musical ambition has turned into my regular attendance at events in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens with an incredible community of songwriters and musicians. Being able to see - let alone play with! - Niall Connolly, EW Harris, Warren Malone, Don Paris Schlotman, Casey Black, Colin Campbell, and Chris Mills (the list goes on and on) every week has been deeply inspiring.
In January, this inspiration led me to record and release my debut EP ('Goodnight Bluebird') and I'm really looking forward to following it up this summer with my full-length debut album and a North American tour. I'm even more excited about it because the album will be produced by the incomparable EW Harris, who made two of my favorite albums of 2010 (his own A Waste of Water and Time and Brother, the Fight Is Fixed by Niall Connolly) and two early contenders for my favorite album of 2011 (Casey Black's It Shapes Me As It Goes and Don Paris Schlotman's Mother Transit Authority.) I'm beside myself at anticipation whenever I think of the collision of my post-apocalyptic folk/country and his southern space-pirate folktronica. It's a genuine honor to be working with EW, and I can't imagine being happier that he's not only agreed to work with me, but seems enthusiastic about doing it.
So, what brings this up? Well, it turns out that my grandmother was right that albums don't grow on trees. (I am about 50% confident that's what she said.) The cost of having the album produced, engineered, mixed, mastered, printed and promoted (as well as the cost of touring) are proving to be the immediate hurdles which I'm aiming to overcome. And that's where you come in.
Through Rockethub, I have the opportunity to offer exclusive rewards for my friends, fans and fellow artists who fuel my project. It's a collaboration between you and I - you contribute to the production and release of the album and, in exchange, I offer all the Ryan Morgan related goodies you can handle.
1. RocketHub is not an investment or charity. It is an exchange: funds from fans for rewards from me.
2. It's an All & More funding mechanism: if I don't reach my financial goal I get to keep what I raise. But if I do reach my goal, I get access to exciting opportunities.
Any funds that go over my goal will go towards the summer tour in support of the album.
Thanks for your interest and attention, and I hope that the rewards on offer might entice you to work with me on this project. I am thrilled at the very prospect, and I can't wait to see/play for/listen to you soon.
Ryan
