What do webOS, the St Baldrick's Foundation and Coffee all have in common? Normally it's not a whole lot, but for the purpose of this project and these three communities, we've found a way to piece it all together AND to give you a the chance to win a cool prize (see below).
By partnering with Chinchilla Tech (developer of MOLO Photo Filters for webOS) and St. Baldrick's, I want to knock out two birds with one large stone and your outstanding support: Build a great webOS application for coffee lovers and help reach the donation goal for St. Baldrick's Cancer Research Foundation (we'll donate it under @zhephree's name).
The idea is simple: you help me raise $1,500 towards both of these goals and I'll split the amount evenly between both projects. That's $750 towards Children's Cancer Research (for @zhephree), and $750 towards the MoJoe Coffee Lover App with Chinchilla Tech.
What will the app do?
The app, currently called MoJoe Coffee Lovers, has a few major features:
- Find neaby coffee shops (other than Starbucks, but also including them). And share your location on Foursquare, Twitter, Facebook, SMS, Email, etc...
- Manage a list of favorite Cafes, Baristas, Drinks, and more.
- View recipes of different coffee drinks and snacks so that you can start making your own!
- Cross-app communications. ;)
Why am I trying to raise money?
I'm doing this for a few reasons, but here are the biggest ones:
- I like to support the people in my community with more than just a "thank you".
- I have always wanted to find a great app for the coffee-loving community in webOS, and I've found a great opportunity to partner with an outstanding developer and support their work while getting it completed.
- RocketHub has shown their support for the webOS community by creating a very cool section of their site for us, and I want to support them by creating one of the first webOS-focused projects through them. THANKS GUYS!
What do you get out of this?
When you donate to this project you are also investing in the future of this community. Each donation will grant a free copy of the application before it is released and with an added bonus only available to those people who have donated. You will also be entered to WIN a copy of Palm Pre: The Missing Manual, autographed by the top webOS community members. You can also enter to win this for free by using the #webOSMissingManual Hashtag on Twitter.
On the website that is created as a home for the app, I will create a specific page that will list each person who donated with a link to their website/social media accounts, along with an avatar and a brief bio (if supplied). This won't just be a list of random names, I want to put faces with it, too.
You can also see the list on the right of this page for special gifts that will be given out to people that donate specific amounts.
A Couple Other Notes:
- RocketHub is not an investment or charity. It is an exchange: funds from fans for rewards from me.
- It's an All & More funding mechanism: if I don't reach my financial goal I get to keep what I raise. But if I do reach my goal, I get access to exciting opportunities."
- Any money raised above and beyond the goal amount will be donated to St. Baldrick's Cancer Research Fund (again, under Geoff Gauchet's Name).
- I am not pocketting any money from this - it's all either going to the developer or to St. Baldrick's.
- Don't think of this as me asking for your money - I'm putting some in as well. Instead, think of this as me asking for your help with supporting these two great people.
- Everyone who donates is entered to win the autographed copy of Palm Pre: The Missing Manual.
