NYC ukulele-powered indie rock band Sweet Soubrette just released our second album, Days and Nights. We are really excited about this record -- it sounds amazing, and we’re getting a tremendous response from its first listeners. And we’re ready to do whatever it takes to introduce it to a wider audience. So we’re planning our first-ever tour to bring our music to new audiences and loyal fans in the Northeast!
We have a solid week of tour dates confirmed. (If you're in one of these towns, we hope to see you at the show!)
- April 18: 7:00pm at Valentine's, Albany, NY
- April 19: 7:00pm at the Musica Loft, Hudson, NY
- April 20: 9:30pm at Nick's Bar and Restaurant, Worcester, MA
- April 21: 9:00pm at the Lizard Lounge, Cambridge, MA (with Bury Me Standing)
- April 22: 9:30pm at the Rendezvous, Turners Falls (near Northampton), MA (with Salvation Alley String Band)
- April 23: 8:00pm at Parkside Lounge, NYC
- April 24: 9:00pm at Tritone, Philadelphia, PA (with Testa Brothers)
We are asking you to help us make this tour happen. As independent musicians, we have no record label to underwrite our touring expenses (things like transportation, food & lodging, and promotion, not to mention paying the musicians!), so we’re asking you, our fans, to help us bring Sweet Soubrette to the masses. You may have heard that in the current state of the music industry, touring is where the money is at. That’s mostly true for established bands, but as an indie band from NYC hitting the road for the first time, it’s more of an investment we’re making. We’re hoping that the 2011 tour will be a pilot project for us, so that we’ll be able to build on this experience and do an even bigger and better tour next year.
That’s where you come in. Yes, you get to be our sugar daddy (or sugar mama). It’s all in our song All That Glitters: Sugar daddy, I’m a fool for you…
Seriously, though, we are partnering with RocketHub to raise tour support funding from our fans who want to help us get beyond NYC. RocketHub is not an investment or charity, but an exchange: funds from fans for rewards from Sweet Soubrette. You may be familiar with Kickstarter; RocketHub is a similar model, but it has an “All & More” funding mechanism: if we don't reach our financial goal, we still get to keep what we raise. But if we do reach (or surpass) our goal, we get access to exciting opportunities.
We’re raising funds for the things I mentioned above:
- Transportation: Renting a minivan for the length of our tour and keeping the gas tank full.
- Food & lodging: Feeding the musicians (they get hungry!) and giving them a place to sleep (they get sleepy!).
- Promotion: Printing and mailing posters (hopefully gorgeous full-color posters) to the towns where we’ll be playing, and hitting up every local paper, radio station and blog with press releases like a PR blizzard.
- Paying the musicians! Have you met Heather, Mike and Bob? They are all incredibly talented musicians, valuable and loyal band members, and awesome people, and playing with Sweet Soubrette generally doesn’t involve them getting paid anything near what they’re worth. Will you help me kick it up a notch?
If you have enjoyed a Sweet Soubrette performance or any of our recordings, including Days and Nights, we hope you'll help us get this show on the road! We have some great rewards to offer you in exchange for your help fueling this project.
"Take Amanda Palmer covering Radiohead and then take Phoebe Legere and drain out the jazz and replace it with Jenny Lewis circa The Execution Of All Things and then throw on some fishnet stockings and you have Sweet Soubrette...this time she has a full band and the songs have texture and beauty."

"What makes a Sweet Soubrette? One part circus performer, one part poet, and third part rockstar...a Sweet Soubrette show is like badass adult story time." -CultureMob
