A Little About Me
We are the University of Leicester iGEM Team. iGEM is the International Genetically Engineered Machine competition, which was founded in MIT in 2003, and has spread worldwide. In 2012 iGEM comprises 193 teams, with our team being only one of nine entering from the UK, and the University of Leicester's first ever team. This a great opportunity to make a global impact, both for the students taking part and the University. More information about the iGEM competition can be found at
www.igem.org/main_page
The team is comprised of 9 undergraduate students, including 6 biological scientists, 2 chemists and a computer scientist, who are all busily working away on our project to try and engineer a polystyrene degrading bacteria. None of the team have financial support for their summer living costs (unlike most other iGEM teams), and have so far raised these, and the research costs, by themselves, motivated by the desire to take part in a great competition and potentially do something good for the world.
