Kevin Carter is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area, with a BA in theatre from San Francisco State University. He started composing in the 80’s with his a cappella group, The Flips, who opened for The Righteous Brothers, Maria Muldaur, Chris Isaak and others. They released the album "What's In The Bright Pink Box" on Flying Fish Records (available soon on iTunes) and he got his first royalty check for airplay of his song "Spy (for the Moral Majority)".
Moving to NYC in 1991, Kevin pursued an acting career, working in numerous regional theatres and tours around the country for the rest of the decade. In 2000, he was accepted into the prestigious BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, where he honed his craft.
His musicals include: The Awful Fate Of Melpomenus Jones (music: Carter, lyrics: Kim Lindsay, book: Carter/Lindsay); Gemini (music/lyrics: Carter, book by Albert Innaurato and Carter); and That’s Andy (music/additional lyrics: Carter, Book/Lyrics: Crystal Skillman, Conceived and additional material: Bobby Cronin); and Summer Schlock (book/music/lyrics: Carter). Current project: Newsadoozies (Book/Lyrics: Brian Glidewell and Marcy Jarreau, Music: Carter) for the UCB Theatre, NYC.
Kevin’s music has been performed in numerous New Composer showcases in NYC, most recently as by Kate Pazakis at “Big Night Out” at Etcetera Etc in Hells Kitchen. A BC/EFA benefit concert of his music, “Picking Up Where We Left Off”, starred Beth Leavel and Kelli Sawyer at the 45th Street Theatre. In addition to Ms. Leavel, Kevin has been honored to have his music sung by the likes of Hugh Panaro, Laura Bell Bundy, George Dvorsky, Burke Moses, Barbara Walsh and Joan Barber.
