A Little About Me
The Leg Lamps, a new trio cover/originals band out of North West Indiana. Playing a very eclectic mix of rock spanning four decades.
Drew on guitar and vocals, Mark on bass and backing vocals, and Andrew on drums and vocals. Based in NWI, as all three musicians are from three areas (Griffith,Merrillville, and Valparaiso respectively)
Mark and Andrew met as members of "Truck Stop Waitresses" and then "Too Many Pills For Elvis" (2MP4E). They started this band as a side project with Drew, who they met via a musicians website, in July of 2011. When "Elvis left the building", the break up of 2MP4E, Drew, Mark and Andrew ramped up what had started as a "once a month jam for fun" and became the trio that is today 'The Leg Lamps".
The name is taken, of course, from that most famous of '"Major Awards", the infamous Leg Lamp from the movie 'A Christmas Story" based on Indiana's Native son, Gene Sheppard. (A movie/writer favorite of Andrew and Mark). They're fans are even refered to as "Frah-gee-lays"
(another refernce to the movie: its what the father reads on the crate the lamp arrives in "Frah-gee-lay! It must be Italian!" Only to be corrected by his wife "I think that says fragile dear")
Though the name is "Christmasy", that's as close as it comes, as this band plays an eclectic mix of music. Every decade of rock is covered, from Ben E King and the Beatles to Horton Heat, Semi Sonic and the Foo Fighters; even a cover of the Sex Pistols classic "God Save The Queen" (a version you have to hear to believe); they even through in a few originals and occasional requests. Basically if you can hear it on your favorite Rock station, they probably play it.
The band debuted in late March with well received show.
