A Little About Me

Bio:

Mark MacLean is passionate and thoughtful educator. Born and raised in Markham, ON, Canada, he was brought up as Roman Catholic. As such, he was baptized, took 'First Communion', was an alter-boy and even took the sacrament of 'Confirmation'.

Through his (Catholic) high-school years, Mark was also involved in the school's social justice group, and was an active part of the Scouting Movement, (a youth leadership organization with religious underpinnings). Over time, Mark slowly shifted away from the beliefs he'd been taught as a child, and developed more secular, non-religious world-view.

In addition to this, Mark has alway sought to understand the world, and his place in it, and in 2001, Mark stumbled into NLP (the study of subjective experience), and has continued his training in it over the last 11 years. This focus on pattern detection, and the subjective nature of everything provided many tools, and leverage points on which to hinge the ideas and concepts.When these communication skills are brought to bear on the topics that so many people debate, and (often mis-understand), he can give people new ways to have meaningful conversations about these topics. Viewed in this way,the focus on improving the way in which people communicate, is at least as important as what people say to one another, and this needs to be the central theme of any book that is trying to sway opinion.  

Mark these days has very few 'beliefs', but does think that everyone can be reached. No on is beyond learning afew new ideas, and everyone wants to have better ways of 'knowing' than they presently have. This provides doorways into any conversation, and lays the foundation for this book.
