I write plays under the pen name Ash Sanborn. The play that's been in my soul for years is "The Feast of Jovi Bono." I seek crowdfunding to bring the stories, told in slam poetry/spoken word art, to one of the most beautiful stages in the upper Midwest -- The Sami Bedell Center for the Performing Arts in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Writing plays is what I naturally do: I wrote my first one at eight, coercing my friends into dressing up in my old ballet costumes to act it out. After that I was drunk on the power and spent many summer days running around the neighborhood recruiting actors, borrowing costume parts, and gathering audience members for my impromptu productions.
I studied with Wayne Knutson and Kenn Robbins at the University of South Dakota and did some innovative, if forgetable, black box projects. After that my family came along; for me, the drama then moved off the stage for years.
Now I've had great feedback that tells me my creativity is getting to where it needs to be. I've fueled the creation of TFOJB through my excitement and passion. Now it just needs friends.
I live in a former whip factory converted to an industrial loft dwelling with my husband, Ed, son, Dylon, 19, a stained glass, ceramics and glass blowing student of Louis "Tony" Curiel, my daughter, Caitlyn, 16, and son Bryan, still in single digits a while longer. My fiction and plays have won recognition in the Writer's Digest competition, the Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition, and many other competitions.
