I am a marine ecologist interested in how global change impacts our oceans. Understanding how these changes alter the services that nature provides is a critical need as we watch ecosystem after ecosystem collapse. I study these questions in the ocean because, let's face it, the sheer number and diversity of species in the oceans is astounding.
I got my PhD at the University of California, Davis, studying the impacts of modern day predator extinctions in kelp forests and fouling communities. I've spent time at the University of California, Santa Barbara working at their kelp forest Long Term Ecological Research site. I currently reside at the National Center for Ecological Analaysis and Synthesis.
I've been working with the National Park Service's Kelp Forest Monitoring Program's data since 2005. I've published one paper using their data, and have more that are ready to go once I obtain this critical last piece of data
