I am a jazz guitarist and composer with four CDs recorded as a leader/co-leader and numerous appearances as a sideman, ranging from small ensembles to a 25-piece jazz orchestra. My work has been featured on NPR and jazz radio stations in the USA, Europe, and Japan. I am on the faculty of Berklee College of Music’s Summer Programs and a guitar teacher in New York City. My book Jazz Guitar for the Absolute Beginner was published by Alfred in 2005. Since 2000, I have been a resident musician at Congregation B’nai Jeshurun in New York City and have recorded three CDs with them that range from the music of Pesah to piyutim from around the world.
I have been writing music since 1996. My first compositions were written for jazz quartet (saxophone, guitar, bass and drums). This has expanded to pieces for two cellos and larger ensembles (a nine-piece chamber group that included strings, percussion and accordion). In 2009, I wrote a song cycle to accompany eight different verses of the Pirke Avot (for vocals, guitar, recorder and ney, bass and percussion), which I will perform on tour in Israel this spring.
